Built from the engine room up
Vessel information usually exists. It is rarely organised in a way crews can use quickly onboard.
The problem
Most vessels already have the information they need
Manuals, service sheets, drawings, invoices, and notes exist — but are spread across PDFs, folders, inboxes, and memory. Under time pressure, this slows diagnosis, maintenance follow-through, and handover.
FirstMate turns that fragmented record into one structured system that crews can actually use — whether they are at the chart table or in the engine room.
01
Scattered
Technical records exist across PDFs, folders, emails, and memory — with no single place to go.
02
Inaccessible
Under pressure, finding the right page of the right manual takes longer than it should.
03
Lost in transition
When crew change, knowledge of what has been done often leaves with them.
What drives us
Mission and vision
Mission
Help owners, engineers, and crew understand their vessel, track maintenance properly, and work with confidence.
Vision
A vessel record that stays usable onboard — documentation, answers, and maintenance in one place, online or off.
The founder
Meet James

After nearly a decade in the Royal Navy, James saw first-hand how difficult it was to work quickly from fragmented technical records. Vessels had the information — it just was not accessible when it mattered most.
FirstMate is built directly from that operational experience. The goal is not to replace engineering judgement — it is to make sure the right information is always close to hand.
