Terms of Service

1. Scope of Service
FirstMate provides a software service to help users access information from their vessel's documentation. The service provides recommendations and information based on the data you provide. It is not a certified marine engineer, and its output should be treated as informational guidance only, not as a professional directive. Always consult a qualified professional for critical operations.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years of age to use our service. By agreeing to these Terms, you represent and warrant that you meet this requirement.
3. User Obligations
You agree not to use the service for any unlawful purpose. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to upload any documents you add to the service. You must not upload material that infringes on the copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights of others.
4. Subscriptions and Payments
Our service is billed on a recurring subscription basis (monthly or annual). All payments are processed securely through Stripe. By subscribing, you authorise us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis at the frequency you select.
Subscription fees are charged in advance at the start of each billing period. You will receive an email receipt from Stripe for each charge.
5. Cancellations
You may cancel your subscription at any time through the billing portal accessible from your account page. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you will retain full access until that date. We do not charge cancellation fees.
6. Refund Policy
We offer a 7-day refund window from the date of your first payment. If you are not satisfied with the service within this period, contact us at support@firstmate.ai and we will issue a full refund with no questions asked.
After the 7-day window, subscription fees are non-refundable except where required by applicable law. If you believe you have been charged in error, please contact us and we will investigate promptly.
Annual plan refunds outside the 7-day window will be considered on a case-by-case basis at our discretion.
7. Free Trial
Where a free trial is offered, no payment is taken until the trial period ends. You may cancel before the trial ends without being charged. Trial terms will be clearly stated at the point of sign-up.
8. Price Changes
We reserve the right to change our subscription prices. We will give you at least 30 days' notice of any price increase by email. If you do not wish to continue at the new price, you may cancel before the change takes effect.
9. Intellectual Property Rights
The FirstMate application, website, and all its original content, features, and functionality are the exclusive property of FirstMate AI Ltd. You retain full ownership of the documents and data you upload to the service.
10. Disclaimer and Liability
The service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. FirstMate AI Ltd does not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for any particular operational or commercial purpose. FirstMate output is for informational purposes only. You remain solely responsible for any decision, action, maintenance step, navigation choice, or compliance action taken in reliance on the service.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, FirstMate AI Ltd excludes liability for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising from use of the service. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Additional service-specific limitations and professional-advice disclaimers are set out in our Disclaimer.
11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account without prior notice if you breach these Terms. You may terminate your account at any time by cancelling your subscription and contacting us to request deletion of your data.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
